In St. Clair County, A Man Restores His License After Driving Under Suspension

Oct 07, 2016, by Maurice Davis in Case Results, Criminal Defense, OWI, Traffic

If you are convicted of certain traffic violations or driving under the influence in Michigan, your punishment will probably include the suspension of your driving privileges. If you are then caught driving while your license is suspended, you will likely face an extended loss of your license. Since most people consider driving as a necessity, despite an inability to legally do so, if you’re caught repeatedly, you can become, tragically, involved in an unending suspension period. When this happens, you’ll need the help of an experienced Michigan traffic lawyer to help restore your license. For example, a man from St. Clair County whose license had been suspended for some time because of previous OWI convictions was recently pulled over and charged with driving under suspension. Since the man was working as a laborer, he needed to drive over 45 minutes a day to make ends meet. Therefore, in order to avoid the potential repercussions of another infraction, he knew that he’d need to speak with an experienced defense lawyer and contacted Davis Law Group.

Attorney Maurice Davis reviewed the man’s case and while his client was, in fact, eligible to have his license reinstated at the time he was stopped, the new driving under suspension charge put this in jeopardy. As a result, attorney Davis strategically handled the client’s recent driving under suspension charge in District Court first. This led him to negotiate with the prosecutor and he arranged to have it amended to a violation that involved paying a small fine but would not include an additional suspension. After successfully reducing the offense, attorney Davis appeared at a suspension hearing on behalf of his client and advocated that he was a good candidate for reinstatement. His argument was ultimately persuasive and the hearing officer ordered to restore the man’s ability to drive. In deciding to have a capable defense attorney, like Maurice Davis, his client could now drive away from the experience without hindrance and with a valid license.
