Meth Possession Charges in Detroit
The Michigan Penal Code Sections MCL 333.7340 to 333.7417 describe the instances in which you can be charged with possession of methamphetamines and other drug possession charges. Also commonly referred to as meth, methamphetamines are a Schedule II controlled substance under the Michigan Penal Code.
Drugs are classified based on their potential for abuse and medically accepted use. The lower the schedule, the greater the likelihood for addiction and abuse, and the lower the accepted medical use. As a Schedule II, meth use is extremely addictive with rare accepted medical use.
Other Drug Charges You Could Face
When you are charged with meth possession, you could face various other criminal drug charges. Some of the more common meth-related charges include:
- Drug paraphernalia: a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and up to ninety-three days in prison
- Manufacturing methamphetamines: a felony punishable by fines of up to $25,000 and a maximum of 20 years in prison
- Using meth: a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and up to one year in prison
- Possession with intent to distribute: a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and fines as high as $25,000
Additionally, if you are accused of cooking or manufacturing meth in your home, your property, belongings, and home could be subject to seizure. Further, if children were in your home, you can expect child protective services to become involved.
Depending on the details, you may even be subject to federal prosecution. This may occur if meth was transported across state lines or in considerable amounts.
